Tell us about yourself.
I’m Missy and I’m an entrepreneur from Atlanta, GA. Six years ago I created a concept for a boutique kickboxing studio with my best friend, and now we have a huge community that we love and two locations! I found fitness in my mid-20’s when I desperately needed to make a huge change in my unhealthy-and-unhappy lifestyle. After losing 40 pounds and dedicating all of my time to learning kickboxing, we realized there was a demand for a kickboxing studio that was women-owned and focused on community, inclusivity, and body-positivity. We wanted to focus not on training the next big fighter, but rather providing a bad-ass workout for everyone else! Opening my own studio and teaching kickboxing has taught me so much discipline and self-love. I also roller skate, travel, and obsess over my 2 dogs in my free time 🙂
What does “Your Best You” mean to you?
Being “My Best Me” means living my life with balance! Appreciating the time at work, at home, alone, with friends, with family, learning new skills, relaxing. All the things that make me happy and fulfilled. When I feel balanced, I feel at peace and truly HAPPY. I believe that’s contagious and also affects others in a positive way.
When do you feel most authentically yourself?
When I’m at my studio in front of a room full of members teaching a kickboxing class. I am everything I’ve ever wanted to be in those moments- strong, confident, encouraging, passionate, and happy.
Favorite way to express your individuality?
My tattoos! They are all unique to me. They show my creativity and uniqueness!
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Don’t give up. Where you start isn’t where you end up! I was a very troubled and lost kid with no direction in my life, and now I feel like I am truly where I am supposed to be in this world. Don’t give up, keep getting to know and love yourself, and enjoy the journey.
Who inspires you to become Your Best You?
My family and my VESTA Community. They have poured so much love and support into me- there is nothing I want more than to make them proud.
If you could share one message with the LANE EIGHT community, what would it be?
Be kind to one another. People carry so much with them that we aren’t aware of. Your kindness could be so impactful to someone who really needs it. I’ve struggled my entire life with anxiety and depression and I cant tell you how much other kindness and grace means to me. It really could sometimes make or break my day. So I try to keep that in mind when I’m interacting with other people in my life!
