ICYMI, here at LANE EIGHT, we’re kicking off 2021 in style. With our #YourBestYou series, we’re sharing some of our favorite stories of perseverance, hope, and aspiration from our LANE EIGHT community of Everyday Athletes. For our latest feature, we caught up with Crysta Meekins. A dedicated #EverydayAthlete, Crysta is currently in the final semester of her Maternal & Child Health MPH program (Ed. – Congrats Crysta!). Inspired to get serious about her health and wellness after being diagnosed with a breast tumor, Crysta has been on a mission to be her best self, and in the process, inspire others to do the same!
What does “Your Best You” mean to you?
I feel that I am at my best when I feel a balance between the physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional elements of my being. I usually feel that equilibrium when I take the time to fill my cup up first, so then I can pour out into others.
How did you discover LANE EIGHT?
I saw my beautiful friend Kirstin (@fitwithkirstin) wearing them and I fell in love!
How have you dealt with what 2020 has thrown at you?
At first things were very chaotic because my classes were moved to remote learning and I had to move back home in Texas. I really just learned how to give myself grace and take things day by day. We are living in unprecedented times so it’s important to allow yourself to feel what you’re going through but to also find joy & peace in those moments.
How do you plan on taking on 2021?
I believe 2021 is a year of growth for me so I’m just taking advantage of the opportunities that come my way and getting out of my comfort zone. You don’t grow when you’re comfortable, so I try to remind myself that every day that I can do hard things.
Who is someone you look up to that embraces the “Your Best You” lifestyle and why do you look up to them?
I would have to say, Michelle Obama. She is an absolute powerhouse and an inspiration to many. She’s elegant, intelligent, empathetic, and strong. Everything that I desire to be.
What self-care rituals do you do to feel your best physically and mentally?
I like to start the day by not touching my phone for the first 60-90 minutes of my day. It allows me to start my day with a clear mind, where I set my goals and intentions for the day. I’ll either play some relaxation music, stretch, or meditate.
What’s your number one advice for people who are struggling with their own wellness journey?
You can start over as many times as you need to! Give yourself grace. Instead of focusing on the end goal, enjoy where you are right now. It’s easy to have laser focus for the end goal, but how about appreciating the journey while it’s happening.
What do you love about LANE EIGHT?
I love that the brand is inclusive, I love seeing the diversity on the Instagram page and on the website! I also love that shoes are made from recycled and renewable materials! Great for the planet and great for any of my day-to-day needs!
What do you want to see in LANE EIGHT in the future?
I would really love to see an orange or burgundy trainer and maybe even sustainable fitness wear.
If you could share one message with the LANE EIGHT community, what would it be?
You can do anything and everything you put your mind to. Limits cannot hold you and there is something great on the other side of you acknowledging this and committing to do the work.
First travel destination post-COVID?
I would love to go to South Lake Tahoe! I was supposed to go in March last year but of course COVID happened.
